THORNHOLLOW'S FENWAY - BLUE OTTER - DEATH BY RATTLESNAKE
1-DEC-12 - 20-JUL-13
Oh how do I even beginning with this poor little guy. I absolutely fell in love with this little guy at Thornhollow's barn. He to me was the best pick of the litter and had the best looking head and body. I dont know how I will ever get over it any time soon. The first pictures are of him at 4 weeks old when I got to see him for the first time. Such a sweet face on him and a little fuzz ball. This little guy had quite the personality.
When ya held him you could hold him for hours and he would just sit there and love on ya and let ya pet him. Now when it came to posing him at 7 weeks old all of a sudden he would growl and charge at ya. It startled the heck out of me when he first did it. I was not expecting that out of my sweet little buck. Any other time he was perfect lol. Eventually yes he did grow out of it and he would let ya pose him whenever ya wanted to and wouldn't growl. I never got to use him to breed either.
Anyway here is the sad story. Saturday we finally get home after my car had quit on me and most likely threw a rod. About 4 hours after we get home I send my son to feed the rabbits in the barn. Next thing I know hes running back up frantic and worked up saying something about a rattlesnake. My heart sank so fast cuz of his re action I thought he had been bitten.
Now the reason why I thought this is because he just asked me how to kill them earlier that day, as I hunt them all the time. Some day I will have to teach him or he will be coming home with them like I did when I was 12. Anyway I figured he was dead for sure since if he had been bitten he just ran up the hill and pumped the venom through his system and I couldn't move. I froze on the sidewalk not knowing what to do and how the hell I was gonna make him live. Finally he said it was in with the blue rabbit. Shit I ran in house and grabbed my 22 long rifle.
I get down to barn and sure enough there is that god forsaken rattler climbing up the door of the cage and no rabbit in sight. My heart sank yet again and I knew right off hand he had been bitten. I tried to get the door open and hold it but no one was helping much. I broke his back with the shovel, but could not concentrate as I knew my rabbit had been bitten. It dove through the 1 in by 1 in holes in the bottom of cage and got stuck where I broke his back. Now his head was dangling below the cage floor. My boyfriend had to take over cuz I was so shook up I couldn't think straight. Finally the head is blown off the snake.
I open the roof to side cage and hes just sitting there not moving. This is not my boy at all. This little guy would always come running to ya and greet ya. He just sat huddled in the corner and I knew he had been bitten. Then I seen blood and lots of venom on his left front ear. I knew he was a goner for sure and Frog would not shoot him to put him out of his misery.
I brought him up to the house to hose him off and cool him down as he was panting way too hard and nose was running. There I find 2 more snake bites on top of his head. Still the boyfriend would not put him down. Needless to say I tried to do what I could for him. His head swelled up so bad I am sure it cut his air way off and no matter what I told Frog he wouldn't put him down. So the poor little guy just suffered and passed on between 12:15 am and 2:11 am. What a miserable horrible death.
This little boy will stay forever in my heart. The pain has not gone away. I cant get him out of my head.

LBFF'S LIL BUNNY FOO FOO - BROKEN BLACK- DEATH BY DOG
4-AUG-11 TO 17-JUL-12
Ok as most of ya know this was my little buddy and who I named my rabbitry after. He was my very first buck and my first sire to babies. He was such an awesome little guy and so very friendly. I picked him up out of a pet store and of course fell in love with him. Before I had really gotten into breeding I had been on a hunt for a white and black rabbit. Yes I had no clue that he was called a broken Black.
Anyway I walked into the store and said man when will you guys ever have my black and white rabbit. My friend said oh boy dont go in the back. I said "No way you have one?" I practically ran to the back and sure enough there he sat. I told her please hold him I am going back to Juliaetta to get my money to buy him. Sure enough its what I did and zoomed right back and he was mine.
He went everywhere with me. He would ride in the back of my car and just chill. He would strecth out and flop on his back. He acted as if he couldnt get enough of car rides. One day my first doe Missy came home. I decided to have a go at it with breeding. Who knew how crazy I would get with it and turn into a perfectionist. I now see all his faults and never should of used him but I have grown a lot since then. Anyway I only have one offspring from him and that's my doe Nibbles a broken black tort.
Well one day when two women came to my house I wanted to show them Lil Bunny Foo Foo so badly. He was no where to be found and the chow was loose as well. Normally Bunny Foo Foo would come running when I kissed at him. Nothing. Well the search began even though I was supposed to be selling rabbits. O looked all over the front yard, the back yard and called continuously. I finally found him below the pumpkin patch. To tell ya the truth I am pretty sure my boyfriend threw him down there so I wouldn't see him. Like I wouldnt see and black and white animal laying on the ground. Well I brought him back up and he was completely mauled to death. I couldn't stop crying and it was so hard to function to try and sell rabbits.
Well eventually the dog was finally put down and removed. I will never own another dog again as he would never leave my rabbits alone even when they were in the cages he tried to get to them. One day he had found how to open a cage that i had on the ground at the time, and had gotten inside of it and tried to get to another rabbit that was in the nest box. I had only 3 cages at that time. My huge doubl;e hutch and my very first cage I made had no legs to keep it off the ground. It now does. Either way he is gone and now there are no dogs here.
Bunny Foo Foo will never ever be forgotten and I keep looking for one like him and boy was Fenway my blue otter buck a lot like him. Every rabbit has a different personality. I am not used to loosing adult rabbits and it hurts so much when I do especially when it is due to an animal or reptile. I never loose my Seniors to disease or some other sickness or neglect. So yea to have them killed for nothing just hurts badly.
